Welcome to the website, I hope you enjoy the journey.......I am a ceramic artist and work with clay. My sculptures are figurative, narrative and expressive, inspired by world issues, people and places.
I like to mix it up by cross referencing for example a character from a Shakespearean play with a contemporary subject/issue and throwing in an appropriate expressive animal head! They are often so much better at communicating than real people; they tend not to hide behind masks – candid subjects.
I hand build using stoneware clay which is fired at 1240 degrees in an electric kiln. The techniques I use include pinching, coiling and slab work. I love working in stoneware, it’s forgiving and the grog within it creates a natural rough finish which works well with oxides.
I use a plethora of finishes, from ceramic glazes, metallic paints, oxides, acrylics, grate polish, gold/silver leaf and often embellish with fabric, feathers and jewels.
I have exhibited primarily in the UK. I am happy to do commission work.
