Raised in a combative Irish immigrant family, heavyweight boxing champion James J Corbett was the first successful fighter to use the Marquis of Queensbury rules in 1897. 

I liked the irony of the Irish immigrant with the terribly English namesake, hence the pose and use of the royal stag.
